Praslin is precisely located 995 miles East of Kenya and 660 miles northeast of Madagascar. It is the second largest island in Seychelles after Mahe. Praslin’s one and only airport is located just five miles west of the wonderful Vallee de Mai. This world heritage site is a must visit for every tourist in Praslin.

The island of Praslin is a tropical paradise with crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and palm-fringed beaches. Though the geography of Praslin is not that mountainous compared to Mahe, it shares similarities with Mahe in its granite outcrops, nature and type of vegetation, and red earth. The overall development of the island is still on a very small scale and includes only a handful of shops, markets, tourist boutiques, restaurant and cafes.

Getting Around Praslin

Buses are a good way to travel around the island. Cars on rent are available for exploring remote corners of Praslin. Boat trips are ideal if you want to visit neighboring islands like Cousin, Curiese, Aride, and La Digue. It can be arranged by any of the Praslin hotels you choose to stay. Hiring a taxi is also a good option for covering the must see spots of Praslin. And if you are fit enough you can cover the area with the help of a bicycle on your own.

  • In Praslin the sun stays intense and bright almost all throughout the year. Therefore, carrying adequate sunscreen and sunglasses are a must for every traveller.
  • The imported goods in Praslin are priced very high due to its isolated location. However, local goods are reasonably priced in the absence of middlemen.
  • In Praslin, it is not legal to drink alcohol on the road.

Praslin Weather

Praslin Island is situated in the Southern Hemisphere. Summer in Praslin is hot accompanied by a very high level of humidity. Summer usually starts in the month of October and lingers till the early part of May. Monsoon is experienced in the islands from early December. The rainy season continues till March. Intense storm and thunder is experienced all throughout the rainy season.

Praslin winter is a great time of the year. It is the best time to visit the island. The winter is not harsh and remains relatively warm making all the beach activities a comfortable pleasure. Winter is enjoyed in the island from late May and it continues till the early part of September.
