Where to Shop and What to Buy in Praslin

Shopping in the island of Praslin can turn out to be a refreshing experience for you. You will be unable to spot international shopping chains and megamalls here. Instead, you will find small retail outlets selling locally-made products, and the entire selling process carried out in a relaxed manner.

Interestingly, some of the best places to go shopping are the island’s local hotels. Most of these hotels own gift shops where visitors can select almost anything from textiles to curios, and expensive jewellery to small trinkets. Travellers planning to take back some of the products as souvenirs must be careful about the restriction imposed on some of the export items. You should never buy basketry, textiles, pottery, nut of the coco-de-mer palm, and shells from the local black market.

During their stay on Praslin Island, travellers should also consider the option of buying prints and framed paintings of some of the local artists who have gained international recognition for their unique style.
